The University of Debrecen has held its traditional spring doctoral and honorary doctoral inauguration ceremony. At this event on Friday, as many as 130 new doctoral candidates in five different disciplines received their degrees, while titles of habilitated doctor, professor emeritus and emeritus advisor were also conferred. Helmut Flachenecker, Professor at the University of Würzburg in Germany, was awarded an honorary doctoral degree, while ecologist Csaba Aradi received a Pro Universitate award.

Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Norway to Hungary, visited the University of Debrecen on Friday to learn more about our institution’s program and research structure, its international relations and its extensive network of industrial partners. Trine Skymoen would wish to promote an increase in the number of Norwegian students enrolled at UD.

The new building of National Manufacturing, Research and Education Center of the Faculty of Pharmacy, recently inaugurated in Vezér Street Industrial Park of the University of Debrecen, is now available for both education and pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. The three-floor, almost 7,000 square-meter, complex was built in one year at the cost of roughly HUF 12 billion.

The Da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system has arrived at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre. The 21st-century, state-of-the-art technology is used primarily in general surgery, as well as surgical procedures in urology, gynaecology and otolaryngology. Thanks to the precise and safe surgical techniques made possible by it, the risk of complications is reduced and recovery times are shortened. The investment of more than one billion Hungarian forints in robotic surgery was officially introduced at the institution on Tuesday.

The Cornea Outpatient Clinic, which was inaugurated on Thursday at the Ophthalmology Department of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, uses state-of-the-art equipment to support the early detection of corneal diseases and provide better conditions for corneal surgery. The complexity of the equipment found in the clinic consisting of two surgeries and a treatment room is unique in the country. In addition to the outpatient clinic, the Cornea Bank, which has been operating for 30 years, also contributes to the excellence of the Ophthalmology Department.

Iran's ambassador to Hungary has discussed academic cooperation opportunities at the University of Debrecen. As part of his visit on Wednesday, His Excellency Morteza Moradian also met with Iranian students enrolled in the University of Debrecen.

At the end of April, a delegation from the University of Debrecen visited several universities in the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Nanjing. Our institutional leaders also participated in the Sino-Hungarian Higher Education Forum held under the aegis of the 13th Educational Global Partners Conference.

Upon the invitation of students from the Philippines, the Ambassador of the Southeast Asian island state to Hungary also visited the University of Debrecen on its International Food Day, an international gastronomic festival. Participants in an international training program (GESEA: Gynecological Endoscopic Surgery Education and Assessment), which started on Thursday at the University of Debrecen's Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, can improve their skills in gynecological endoscopic procedures. In the course, which is unique in Hungary, specialists and would-be specialists get a chance to conduct their practices in a dry laboratory that was recently renovated with the support of the Faculty of Medicine out of a budget of around HUF 40 million.

The University of Debrecen has signed a cooperation agreement on research and education with the institution of higher education called Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, India. Owing to this partnership agreement, joint training and student exchanges will be possible in the future in the fields of engineering, information technology and natural sciences.
